Overall, the research project sets itself the goal of studying the ways in which labour is used and regulated in Italian small enterprises (those with fewer than 50 employees), with an analysis of and a comparison with the situation in other European countries.

The aims of the project are:

  • to identify the characteristics, strengths and weaknesses of different regulation modes for workers, firms, and local economies
  • to discuss their implications in terms of economic competitiveness, employment growth, and social sustainability, also according to the recommendations of the “Europe 2020” (EU2020) key objectives and the priorities of the Horizon 2020 programme
  • supply institutions and social partners with information useful for devising strategies and policies on labour issues in small firms.
